What is male infertility?

If the male partner is unable to cause pregnancy in fertile female, it refers to male infertility. In simple words, if the male semen is not potent enough to induce pregnancy in a fertile female, it is male infertility.

In India, there were times where there was no readiness to accept male infertility (due to male dominancy and ego culture). In other words, male infertility treatment did not exist. Over the period of time, due to awareness and education, the scenario has changed and there is readiness to go for Low Sperm Count treatment (Azoospermia treatment)

How common is male infertility:

It is very common. About 50% of the total infertility cases are due to male infertility. One in 20 men has low sperm counts (oligospermia) and one in 100 men has no sperm counts (azoospermia).   • Laboratory investigations – Semen analysis and blood reports to know the semen quality and quantity as well as hormonal levels and general profile
  • Radiology investigations – to evaluate the structural problems such as size and shape of the testicle, vericosele, obstruction etc.

What are the symptoms of male infertility?

Infertility itself is a symptom. There are no other specific symptoms related to male infertility. In infertile man, most of the times, the erection, ejaculation, sperm quantity etc goes normal. Only by the reports one gets to know the quantity and quality of sperm, and whether one needs to go for male infertility treatment or not.

How is male infertility treated?

In modern medicine, there are very few options available for male infertility treatment. Those are hormonal injections and IVF. In IVF, out of many, the healthy sperm is found and fertilized with ovum.

IVF doesn’t cure the low sperm count or male infertility. It just helps to achieve pregnancy in low count or male infertility. On the other hand Ayurveda can cure male infertility.
