What is immunity?
Immunity is our defense mechanism. Our immunity protects us from the viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms. Our immunity system consists of certain cells such as Leucocytes (white blood cells), lymphocytes, T-cells, B-cells etc. in case of infection or toxicity, our immunity system attacks the infectious or toxic agents and destroys it. Sometimes our immunity behaves strangely and destroys our own body cells. This condition is termed as Autoimmunity.
Immunity in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, immunity is termed as “Vyadhikshamatva” (resistance). It is also co-related with our Ojas or Bala. In Ayurveda, three types of Bala are mentioned.

- Kaalaja Bala
- Yuktikrita Bala (Acquired Immunity)

Kalaja Bala is strength according to seasons and age. As a child grows, his/her immunity increases. In the old age, immunity decreases. In the mixed seasons like vasanta ritu, immunity tends to decrease.
