Stress treatment in Ayurveda
Today, almost everyone is passing through some sort of stress. At times, certain amount of stress is good for overall performance and output but when stress gets excess and permanent, it is not good for the body. It disturbs the routine, it effects on behavior, relationships and confidence.
What is stress?
Simply, stress is our body’s response. Whenever our body feels insecure or under some sort of attack, body starts generating pressure from within. In such condition, there are two options available with everyone. “Fight or flight”. Positively fighting with the stress acts as a great stress buster. It increases confidence, self-esteem and satisfaction. On the other hand, running away from the situation (flight) generates more and more stress over the period of time. At some level, it makes person unable to cop the stress and it affects negatively on performance, self-esteem and satisfaction.
What causes stress?
Any common or uncommon incident might trigger stress such as…
- Death or illness of a dear one
- Work pressure
- Any matter which hurts your self-esteem
- Exams and interviews
- Performance related stress
- Ups and downs in relationship
The list is very long. Physiologically, stress is a hormonal and neurotransmitter game. Hormones like cortisol and adrenalin plays important roles when the person in stressed.
Sign & symptoms of stress
There are many sign and symptoms of stress. The symptoms might be different from person to person. Many ask “Am I stressed?” Well, here is a list of some common most symptoms… just check it out.
- Anger and irritability
- Increased heartbeat, difficulty in breathing
- Dry mouth, speech problems
- Loss of appetite, acidity
- Hypertension, headache
- Problems on decision making
In modern medicine, there is no particular treatment which can cure stress. There are some hormonal medicines which might act. On the other hand ancient Ayurveda and Yoga has a lot to offer. It can be a permanent cure of stress.
Stress and Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a holistic health science. It takes care of body and mind on parallel levels. Primarily, stress is related to mind, and then it is reflected in the body through various symptoms. There are various stress buster herbs and therapies in Ayurveda which nourishes the mind and helps in stress. Herbs like Shankhapushpi, Brahmi, Vacha, Jatamansi etc. are best herbs for stress. Ayurvedic doctor for stress needs to identify the proper herbs as per the patient’s body constitution for proper stress management. A therapy like Shirodhara for stress is also very beneficial.
